Ottawa resident and mother Jenny Guth has recently helped implement a Buddy Bench in Stittsville Public School.

The Buddy Bench is an ordinary bench placed in the schoolyard. Children who are sad or looking for playmates can sit on the bench to signal they would like someone to come talk to them or ask them to play.

This simple symbol helps to teach children about empathy and friendship, but can also make life for lonely students a whole lot better.
