Since their February Awesome Newcastle win, OneWave have had a huge program re-vamp and are going great guns! For those who do not know about OneWave, it is a non-profit surf community tackling funks like depression, anxiety and bipolar. With a simple recipe of salt-water, surfing and trained volunteers to talk about life with, you get Fluro Fridays.

The inspiring OneWave crew have recently trained up ten volunteers, and are now partnered with local company Headspace. Headspace have introduced OneWave to ten participants who are ready to make awesome happen in their own lives. A new Fluro Friday group started up last Friday, with everyone looking forward to beginning the fun times again.

OneWave has also recently seen in their third birthday, and crew member Aimee Blacker tells us it was epic.

“There was such a huge range of people who came down for Fluro Friday, probably around 70-80.” Blacker shares.

“Everyone who attended lined the beach for a minutes silence for those the lost to suicide. The huge crew then got out amongst the waves!”

Blacker is thrilled with the amount of new faces turning up.

“It’s been great to still see new people turn up almost every week.”

As they head into the cooler months attendance is more challenging, so OneWave are looking to also do some friday arvo surfs as well as the morning session.
